2001 mecury 75,tappin

hello everyone,i was wandering if anyone could tell what could be wrong with my 2001 mercury 75,i took it out this weekend,everything was fine until i gave it some thottle,then a noise came, sounded like a lifter tap,was told it might be a reed valve,it still has same power,but with more thottle came more noise, any ideas before i get into this thing would b greatly apprieciated.
