oookay,riddle me this?

late 80's early 90's motor,is there a retainer holding the impeller on the shaft or is it just stuck?I got the lower,no year,no motor size,just the parts for the pump.they even cracked the cav plate by the front bolt trying to BEAT the lower off the upper cuz' they forgot to unbolt the shift shaft under the powerhead,sounds like fun huh? no really,is there a retainer?I don't see one and before I split the impeller to get it off I wanna' try to get it off the right way but she wont give it up and this poor lower has been brutalized enough before I even got it .Year and size to follow.
