Hi
my bayliner 4 cylinder volvo I/O aq125 engine does not want to start right away when it is cold. Besides timing ,plugs ,points, spark and fuel to the carb being o.k. ,what could be the problem? it takes a good 5 minutes to start while resting the starter in between before it finally takes off. Once it is warmed up it starts right away.Help. Thanks bt |

Sounds like a fuel system problem where there is not enough pressure in the fuel lines. When the engine is cold check the fuel lines and make sure fuel is getting to the engine. Compare the lines after the engine has started. Sometimes small cracks or bad seals will cause the problem you described.

I'll usually have a look down the carb and see if: 1) the choke is closed 2) I'll flip the throttle and see if gas is present in the carb.
You can pour a little gas into the carb if it appears dry and see if the prime allows it to start right away. Be careful not to spill any. Put your blowers on. |
