I have a late 70's model 50 h.p Merc 500 thunderbolt 2 stroke. This has been a great running engine but on my last trip it had an issue. As I was heading back to the ramp I couldnt get back on plane. Whenever I would go past half throttle the engine would suddenly overrev like it had slipped into neutral or the prop had come out of the water. It runs perfectly as long as I dont go past that spot. It's still pumping water and theres little to no damage to the prop. Any ideas?

Most propellors have a rubber hub in the center. If the prop hits something, the "hub" spins, destroying itself. This saves the gears in you lower end.
Otherwise, it would have to be a shift cable/linkage adjustment. |
