Cool Transducer wire/cable

is it possible to adapt an old transducer wire /cable to a new/different unit,I have come across a few occasions when a customer wanted to install a new unit head and wanted to either splice the old wire or try to find a same unit so as not to have to deal with the transducer and the whole reseal and install ordeal.I always tell them it is a nesacary evil and it needs to be done ,am I wrong?

As long as the electrical characteristics are the same and you can make it water tight it should work.

You might be able to get a crossover cable from transducer maker Airmar. I have a bunch of these I use for electronics testing. My test boat has an Airmar thru-hull transducer glassed in flush. It terminates with a 10-pin Furuno connector. I have hooked this transducer to at least 25 different sounders over the last 5 years of testing. It works everytime as long as I have the right crossover cable.
